Employee Awards Are a Great Way to Reward Staff

All people need to feel validated and appreciated with their personal relationships and within families and most of all people spend the best part of their lives at work and need to feel appreciated for their effort and time. Thousands of employees complain about their employers and the lack of recognition. Employees that feel valued in turn create ambassadors who become advertisements for businesses, and also help employers to attract quality people. Employees that are given recognition and are rewarded for their efforts, will go the extra mile, and will stay around for longer to contribute their intellectual capital. However, an employer that expresses gratitude will need to spend money.

Rewarding staff does not necessarily mean draining the company's finances with preparation and proper planning. Depending on the sector your business operates in will depend on the type of rewards your staff will appreciate and respond to. Rewards can be simple and straight forward, or can reflect on a certain kind of culture that the business is striving to create. In addition to rewards, employers can brighten up their staff day, by smiling and greeting them by name. Show an interest in you by taking time to get to know them, as this gives employers the opportunity to express empathy, sympathy and joy, which means a lot to any member.

Employee awards and staff awards can mean public appraisal which can be carried out at meetings or sent our via a group email. When you praise a staff member in front of other employees, this can enhance your staffs understanding of the roles they are required to play in the company. Employers can create prizes that provide fun such as taking your staff out for dinner and drinks, as this will create a bonding outside the workplace. Give your employers a chance to relax outside the office by offering them a breakfast or lunch in a local cafe. Take the staff to an amusement park for a day over the week end. Plan ahead so that the staff is not aware, and then make the announcement on the day which will surprise them no end.

Get creative with your reward systems. Also allow your staff to make suggestions, and find out what they would like, as this is a good way to find out what rewards will motivate them. There are endless ways in which to motivate staff where large amounts of cash are not required. Sometimes just a "thank you" is sufficient, as staff members like being acknowledged for a job well done. Employers can also award staff members with certificates or an added bonus year end.

What I particularly liked was for the 'king pin' which is a magnetic clip holder, but which had a jumble of stick figures all doing high cartwheels. This is an item which would be a highly prized on any employee's desk.
